From Scene to Seen – Identity Uncovered
“From Scene to Seen” is a pioneering conference dedicated to the science and strategy of human identification at crime scenes. Bringing together forensic specialists, investigators, academics, and technology innovators, the event explores how the smallest traces—DNA, digital footprints, fingerprints, and beyond—can reveal the identities behind the evidence. Designed to spark collaboration and share cutting-edge developments, this conference is a hub for professionals determined to turn the unknown into the known, and to move investigations from speculation to certainty. Join our amazing line up of presenters in sharing your research and case studies at the conference.
Keynote Speaker: Howard Way OBE
Disaster Victim Identification begins at the scene! Too often victim identification efforts begin at the mortuary. Howard will discuss and suggest minimum standards of investigation at the scene in relation to: · Documenting, numbering and photographing human remains at the scene · Forensic and other evidential considerations · Handling intelligence of identity at the scene · Keeping standard operating procedures for responders as simple and understandable as possible, whilst maintaining evidential integrity
Workshop Host: Lorna Markillie
Despite its growing adoption across multiple industries, virtual reality (VR) remains an underutilised tool in crime scene investigation (CSI) and frontline policing. This workshop explores how VR can be applied to revolutionise CSI training by offering immersive, risk-free environments for investigators to develop critical decision-making, procedural accuracy, and situational awareness. Drawing on doctoral research by the presenter, this session will showcase how immersive learning can support the development an understanding in the role of a CSI. Attendees will gain first-hand experience with VR headsets and actively engage in interactive crime scene simulations designed to mirror real-world investigative challenges. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for participants to contribute to ongoing research by offering feedback on the user experience, training potential, and practical application of VR in policing.
